2004 Reunion Report |
|
“Oh Doze Good ‘Ole Harbour View Daze!” The spirit of love, friendship, happiness and togetherness, coupled with the Harbour View community’s oneness was overwhelmingly rekindled at the 2nd Harbour View Reunion 2004. The reunion was held on July 16th & 17th 2004 in sunny South Florida. Over 600 Harbour Viewites, family and friends gathered for a weekend of love and reunion. This weekend comprised of many special events planned by a dedicated group of Harbour Viewites who took pride in producing a high-class memorable occasion for all to enjoy. The Harbour View South Florida Committee members, namely, Carol (Masters) Allison, Peter Allison, Colin Betty, Michelle (Cyrus) Brown, Eric (Junior) Cyrus, Knolly Derby, Sonia (Campbell) Douglas, Carson (Eddy) Edwards, Carol (Alder) Harris, Karene (Kay) March, Bridget (Smith) Newman, Shelly (Martin) Phipps, Dexter (Tunku) Plumber and Judith (Barnett) Roberts—along with a host of volunteers, took on a venture that was not only extremely successful in bringing Harbour View friends together, but also created an atmosphere that brought back a lot of great memories. This made an indelible impression that will last in our minds and hearts forever! The positive feedback (verbally and written) and comments posted on the Harbour View website, has reinforced the reasons why we are all proud Harbour Viewites. Our Friday evening (July 16th) started off with a “Meet and Greet” event which had cheerful sounds of joy, happiness and lots of laughs. Voices echoed exclamations such as: “How yu du?!” “Is long time mi nuh see yu!!” “Which part yu live now?” “Remember when wi used to tek de bus?” “Yu traveled from Jamaica/Arizona/Atlanta/England/Canada/Texas/New Jersey/New York to come here?! That is called—love for others and dedication.” “I remember your face, but not your name.” “I played for Beckenbaur and I know you played for Arantes or was it Color Red Mini League team?” and many, many greater mind stimulating conversations. The big hugs and melodic screams of delight in seeing good old Harbour View friends and family were beautifully everlasting! To add to the “buzz in the air” atmosphere, the Harbour View South Florida Committee challenged and enticed the crowd with Harbour View trivia, did you know facts, games and delicious horsd’oeuvres that made the families cheer for more and were enjoyed by all. Continuing the fun-filled weekend reunion, on Saturday, July 17th during the daytime, our Harbour View friends and families gathered for a picnic at South Florida’s Markham Park. Who would have thought that even more “new faces” who lived in Harbour View and couldn’t attend the Meet and Greet event would show up at the picnic??!! Wow—it was a wonderful feeling seeing more dedicated and loving friends meet to laugh again and again about those good old Harbour View days. The picnic was exciting!! Lots of fun games/race events such as: egg & spoon, sack, needle & thread, three-legged races, bun eating contest, etc were planned for all families to enjoy. However, our families were so engrossed with the excitement of chatting with each other, dancing, singing to great solid music sounds by DJ Migraine and tackling each other with the scrimmage East versus West Football matches—that they decided to forego some of the planned games/races. All enjoyed more Harbour Trivia, the delicious food catered by Taste Rite Restaurant and give-a-ways which really added more excitement to the fun day at the picnic in the park. To “top off” the Harbour View friends and family weekend, the South Florida Harbour View committee members successfully closed out the grand reunion with a “ROCKING PARTY” for all to remember. The event was held at the Hollywood Rotary Club in Hollywood, Florida where all were entertained by C-Roy the Entertainer and Leslie Grant, deejays of different eras who played music from the vintage days of the 1960’s through to the 2004’s. During the night, a presentation was made to Carvel “Daddy” Stewart for his contribution to Harbour View. Other presentation was made to Michael “Fateye” Thompson for his initiative to start and maintain the Harbour View website “linking” us all together. There were gifts and give-a-ways to other Harbour View guests who showed their love and dedication by supporting the 2nd Harbour View reunion. A professional photographer was present and he flashed groups of smiling friends throughout the evening. The evening came to a close with the crowd yearning for more…….and more, wishing the night could have been longer. Overall, the Harbour View friends and families who attended the 2nd Harbour View Reunion 2004 in South Florida had a fun-filled weekend which will always linger in our minds. Our sincere gratitude and thanks to all who made the 2nd Harbour View Reunion an overwhelmingly successful. Computers as well as monetary contributions were dispersed to the Harbour View community focusing in the following areas: Schools on the East and schools on the West. The Harbour View Football club was given a pair of goalnets to start the football season. Please keep
looking on the website for detail on the 2005
Reunion.
