St. Boniface by the Sea

A Tribute To a Place I Love
REFLECTING ON JAMAICA, OUR JAMAICA

A Tribute To a Place I Love....

 BEAUTIFUL JAMAICA !!! .....

As I think of the hills and the clear blue sea
Memories of Jamaica rush back to me
As I think of the rivers and fertile earth
I remember Jamaica, the land of my birth.

I relive, in my mind, a distant past
And my heart laments the times I've lost
I think of a time and a place I feel
Gone but etched in memories surreal.

I long to return to a simpler way
In that sunshine land I used to play
And the almost primitive ways and means
These are the things that fill my dreams.

The beaches, the mountains, a caressing breeze
Cane fields, banana and coconut trees
 Long and winding country roads
And country busses with heavy loads.

The handcart man, selling his wares
The Jolly bus and penny-ha-penny bus fare
A fudgeman riding to and fro
Shouting Icicle, Ice-cream Cake and Choca-mo.

The market stalls filled with fruit!
The laughter, the innocence of my youth
Things that I miss and long for so
Things that remind me of long ago.

At nights I recall the star filled sky
 And Peenie Wallie's flittering by
In whispered tones we'd spend the night
Telling Duppy stories that filled with fright.

On a windy day the kites would soar
While angry waves lashed at the shore
Swaying trees in the howling wind
God how much I miss these things.

The way the rain, slowed everything down
The earthy smell as it hit the ground
Refreshing the land and watering crops
The exciting clangor on the zinc roof tops.

Oh Jamaica I miss your ways
I miss your climate and sunny days
In a foreign land where I've come to rest
Spurned on by an economic quest.

Though no turning back, on this traveled way
For you my homeland, I'll always pray
My memories of you will never depart
Jamaica, Jamaica the beat of my heart

REFLECTING ON JAMAICA, OUR JAMAICA

Dawn from the Blue Mountain Peak
Sunset on the far horizon at Oracabessa

The cool mountain breeze on Cinchona

The fresh fragrance of flowers at Strawberry Fields

Coffee blossoms in the moonlight at Dublin Castle

The hot golden sands of Treasure Beach

The rhythm of rushing waters at Dunn's River

The mystery of the pirates at Port Royal

Crowded sidewalk shoppers in the city

Night noises, fireflies and crickets at Mavis Bank

Warm sparkling sunbeams of Negril

And the soft rainy afternoons at Fairy Hill

Jamaica Our Jamaica.

Joy’s Innermost Thoughts

We conceive

We born

We live

We die

Our offspring we nurture the best way we can

We feed them, we train them with loves tender care

And hope and pray that reward will appear.

This business of life is an uncertain game.

We work and we slave for long years ahead

Good education, housing, food and the rest

Yes our children must have the best

Graduation is here with excitement and gain

Optimism runs high as degrees are obtained

One month becomes one year and you are still unemployed –

You try, you know you tried hard but elusiveness prevails

With the same response “WE HAVE YOU ON FILE”

What was this all for?

The hard work, denials, the plans

This business of life is a challenging one;

Don’t give up my children, press forward ahead;

The challenge is great but you will survive

And learn to conquer THIS BUSINESS OF LIFE.

PEACE

Peace Perpetual Peace

Is our international song;

So, why should there not be that peace needed by everyone?

From East to West, from North to South

Shouting with passion and earnestly so –

“Let there be peace, let peace avows

Let love for fellowman be our motto now!”

There is a start with Mediation Plan

From here, let us build without confronting anyone,

Let’s sit, let’s talk, let’s communicate,

Discuss our problem aloud

Ask for help, there is plenty about.

“Let there be peace, let peace avows

Let love for fellowman be our motto now!”

GOD IS OUR GUIDE

Whenever life’s road gets rough

Always remember that your Faith is enough

To withstand the pains, the perils –

These are obstacles of test

Testing how high a hurdle you can jump.

Be assertive, be positive

Push those obstacles aside.

Jump, jump that hurdle of life

Looking to God as your guide.

St. Boniface by the Sea

Rip-roaring tides belie the fact

That a short distance from its foaming banks

Stands a building humble and Serene

With cathedral roof and simple wooden doors

Painted in delicate shades, so soothing to the eyes.

To its front, proudly stand a cross

A reminder to all – The Atonement of Our Sins.

Nestling between the Caribbean Sea and busy streets

Is St. Boniface, St. Boniface by the Sea.

Her Rector, he is oh so dear

Sometimes firm but dearly loved

By his congregation, young and old.

On entering this little Church

Peace and serenity enfolds and calm the soul

The friendly smiling faces the stranger meets

A kindly welcome like a banner greets.

Saying, friend

Happy welcome to St. Boniface by the Sea.

Up to the front her ALTAR proudly stands

With two tall candles brightly lit.

The Chalice with its contents and plate with host

The HOLY BIBLE at its stately post

Behind, young Acolytes, both boy and girl

And our Rector humbly wait

As the congregation kneels, he serves Communion

A reminder of the “Body and Blood” of Christ

Of his death on the cross for all our sins.

This Holy ceremony is over, and

Here comes the children all excited

To kneel at the ALTAR as their parents did.

“The blessing of God be upon you”, our Rector says

As he warmly and gently touches each head

Jesus loves the little children the congregation chants

Until each is blessed.

Do you feel it?

The warmth, the Holiness, the serenity!

I do, you will too!
